The Weekly Ansible
Godzilla versus Gipsy Danger, a mech from Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. These two films will hopefully revive the entire kaiju genre, which has languished over the last decade with several giant monster false starts, such as Cloverfield and Super 8. Both films were fantastic, in my opinion, though Cloverfield was severely limited by its medium of communication, but they did not really capture the spirit of kaiju films. Now we have Pacific Rim in which the monsters are specifically called “kaiju” (this is a first) and a serious, high budget and high talent reboot of the original kaiju, Godzilla. Fabulous.
